The Magic of Tillandsias – Air Plants for Every Home
If you’re a plant lover but haven’t tried air plants yet, it’s time to change that! Tillandsias are fascinating plants that require no soil and are ideal for anyone looking to add a bit of green life to their home without much effort.
In this blog, I’ll show you how to take care of them and how to display them so they become an eye-catching decorative element in any room. Plus, I’ll share tips on how to properly integrate them into your interior using the products you can find in our shop.
What are Tillandsias and why are they great?
Tillandsias are a genus of plants in the Bromeliaceae family. Their biggest advantage is that they grow without soil – they get all the necessary nutrients and moisture from the air! These plants are not only beautiful but also very easy to care for. They have a unique ability to absorb water and nutrients through their leaves, meaning they don’t need any soil or frequent watering.
Tillandsias are incredibly diverse. You can find them in various shapes, colors, and sizes. Some have a subtle silvery tint, while others are vibrant green or even shades of pink. They are a perfect addition to any interior, which is why they are becoming increasingly popular.
How to care for air plants?
Even though Tillandsias are low-maintenance, there are a few basic rules to help them thrive:
- Watering: Tillandsias need moisture, but not too much water. The best method is to soak them in water for 20-30 minutes once or twice a week. After watering, let them dry thoroughly – especially near the base to prevent rotting. If the air in your home is dry, you can gently mist them with water.
- Light: Tillandsias love bright spots but avoid direct sunlight. East or west-facing windows are ideal, providing enough light without burning the leaves.
- Air circulation: Air plants love fresh air. Regular ventilation helps them stay healthy.
- Temperature: The ideal temperature for Tillandsias is between 15 and 25°C. Cooler, humid spots like bathrooms can also be an excellent choice due to the higher air moisture.
Where to display your Tillandsias?
